Biography

I have worked at Lothrop as the Head Start teacher since 2010. Prior to teaching at Lothrop I worked for the Council Bluffs Community School District full time as a substitute teacher in all grades from Preschool to High School, Special Education, as well as a little PE & Art. This all helped me realize, little people are who I need to be with :) While in college I worked as a Special Education Para for 2 years with OPS.

I was born, raised and still reside in Council Bluffs. I live there with my husband, Chad, and my two sons, Maddox & Griffin. I attended Kindergarten - High School in the Council Bluffs Community School District. I graduated in 2005 with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from University of Nebraska @ Omaha. I completed my Early Childhood Education endorsement at Buena Vista in Council Bluffs in 2010.

Academics

At times people mistake what is taught in Early Childhood as "just play".....Play is an important part of a child's early development. Play allows children to use creativity while developing their imagination, physical, cognitive, and emotional strengths. Daily play helps children's brains to develop their language and communication skills. Play also contributes to the develop of children's motor skills and helps with problem-solving. It is during play that children, at an early age, engage and interact in the world around them. My goal for my students is to help them build their social skills so they can be successful student as they move into kindergarten.
